SCI Shipping Company Selection and TrainingSCI Selection as a Deck Cadet
First check education criteria and then follow following steps. To get a job in Shipping Corporation of India as a Deck cadet, candidates have to apply to SCI Shipping followed by online written entrance exam and psychometric test. Qualified candidates to appear for personal interview. Selected candidates to clear medical & eye test. Then appear for Indian Maritime University common entrance exam. After passing the exam, A 12-month residential course in Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Nautical Science; the gateway to becoming a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy at SCI training institute (MTI, Mumbai). SCI Selection as a Junior Engineer First check education criteria and then follow following steps. To get a job in Shipping Corporation of India as a Junior Engineer, candidates have to apply to SCI Shipping followed by online written entrance exam and psychometric test. History of Shipping Corporation of India
On October 2 1961, The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. was incorporated by amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation as India’s first public sector company in shipping.
In 1964, Diversified into crude oil transportation.
In 1971, Jayanti Shipping Company merged with Shipping Corporation of India.
In 1975, Acquired the first Indian very large crude carrier (VLCC). Shipping Corporation of India forms Irano Hind Shippping Company, a joint venture with the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines.
In 1984, Diversified into offshore segment, acquired anchor handling cum towing supply vessels or Offshore supply Vessels (OSVs).
In 1986, Mogul Line Ltd. merged with SCI.
In 1987, Set up its own Maritime Training Institute (MTI) in mumbai which is a regional training centre by UNCTAD. MTI commissioned India’s first Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) Laboratory.
In 2001, Diversified into LNG transportation through joint venture companies with consortium partners, Japanese Shipping Lines MOL, NYK and K-Line; Qatar Shipping Company, Qatar Gas Transport Company and Petronet LNG.
In April 2017, the then Shipping Corporation of India’s total fleet strength of 70 vessels aggregating to 6.01mndwt. crossed the 6 mn dwt tonnage mark.
In 2021, Global historic event of first ever “All Women Officer Sailing” on M.T. Swarna Krishna on 7th March
