5 Perks of Working on a Cruise Ship

5 perks working on cruise ships
If you are looking for work, then why not consider a career on a cruise ship? There are people who would like to travel than to stay at home, and if this sounds like you, a cruise ship could fit your idea of a travel dream job.

Some cruise lines often hire temporary workers to fill the gap during some seasons, while some cruise lines offer permanent jobs where you are out in the sea for most of the year. If you dream of working in the hospitality and tourism sector, here are some things that may convince you in packing your bags and working on a cruise ship.

Getting paid to travel

People often spend an arm and a leg just to see the world. The good thing about joining a cruise ship is that you are the one being paid to travel. Cruise ship workers get to stay on board with free meals and accommodation. Aside from the accommodation and free food, you will get an attractive compensation package. Various websites on the Internet reported an average before-tax salary of $2000 to $6500 per month for cruise ship workers depending on the position.

Meals during your working hours are often paid by the company. In cases that you will get hungry outside your shift you are given the privilege of getting huge employee discounts on gourmet food. Food that would typically cost an arm and a leg in land-based restaurants has become more affordable and sometimes free for cruise ship staff.

Visiting a lot of countries

If you happen to join an international cruise, you will get the privilege of visiting a new country each month. You would rarely visit the same country twice in a year, and that it is common for cruise ship workers to find themselves in a whole new place each month. There are opportunities given to employees where they can spend their time off by spending few days off board when you land in a destination that you only fancied in your dreams.

Meeting new people

You have the opportunity to rack up new Facebook friends every two weeks as you get to work with a new team and interact with new set of passengers every 10 to 14 days.  Cruise ships may have restrictions on how to connect with passengers but there are lots of time to serve them and you may get some contact that way.

When you are off duty you can sample the free entertainment afforded to staff and cruise ship employees. You get to listen to live music and discount on the drinks and food.

A career in a cruise ship is great. If you get homesick, you can contact them through a laptop as most ships nowadays have wi-fi where you can Facebook chat them or do some Skype.  So the next time you think about a job that requires travel, a cruise ship may be something to keep in mind.
